Boss Tactics
Here
are your best bets for beating the Pokemon Gym Leaders:
Brock:
Use water or grass Pokemon against this rock trainer.
Misty:
Use grass pokemon or electric to defeat this gym leader.
Lieutenant
Surge: use a rock or ground pokemon and he's toast.
Erika:
Use fire pokemon or flight against this plant lover and shatter her dreams
of fighting you again.
Sabrina:
Use bug or ghost against this psycho maniac and she is a goner.
Koga:
This poison pokemon lover will be deafeted easily by using psy pokemon.
Blaine:
This fire trainer will use fire pokemon against you so you can use water
or ice.
Final
boss: Giovanni, the team rocket leader, is the final gym leader - use water,
ice, plant and he's out of there (and talk to him again and he says something
to you).
In the
Indigo Plateau you find 5 pokemon masters. Use this pokemon lineup for
a better chance of success:
Lorelei-
Plant
Bruno-
Water, Plant, Flight, Ice
Agatha-
Psy
Lance-
Ice or Dragon

City Slot Tip
All of
the slot machines have different odds, which change every time. Play each
machine 4 times, and if it hits 2 or more, then stick with that one, because
it's probably hot. If the slow machine forces you really close to a 777
or Bar Bar Bar it will probably give you one or the other soon.
Clone
Pokemon (High
Risk Involved!)
Note:
This trick requires another Game Boy, link cable and Pokemon game.
Trade
the Pokemon to be cloned, and have the other player select a Pokemon that
he or she does not care about. Trade them, and make sure the player receiving
the bad Pokemon can see the other player's screen. When the Game Boy that
receives the good Pokemon's displays "Waiting", get ready to shut the other
Game Boy off. When the "Waiting" message disappears, turn off the Game
Boy that is receiving the bad Pokemon. When the "Trade completed" message
appears, turn off the remaining Game Boy. Both games will have the same
good Pokemon when they are turned back on.
Note:
Do not attempt this trick with any saved games you wish to keep, as it
can corrupt those files if done incorrectly.
Cut Down
Grassy Areas
Once
you get the HM "cut", your pokemon can cut down grassy areas. Use "cut"
and it will cut a two by two area. Wild Pokemon will not attack you in
the area you cut.
Duplicate
Items
To get
99 of any item, first put the item you want to multiply in the sixth item
slot. Now use FLY and go to Viridian City. Talk to the old man almost all
the way north of the town. When he asks if you are in a hurry, say no and
watch him catch a weedle.
Right
after that, fly to Fuchsia city. Make your way south and, when you you
reach the water's edge, use SURF and make
your way to Seafoam island.
When
you get to seafoam island, swim up and down the beach until you run into
a Pokemon called "M" (Missingno.) Once you see him, kill him or run away.
DO NOT CATCH HIM! After that, you should have multiple copies of your sixth
item!
Easy Level
Gain
To easily
gain experience, simply switch the Pokémon you want to train with
the top Pokémon on your list. When you go into battle the Pokémon
will pop out. You can then switch to another Pokémon. Once you win
the battle the beginning Pokémon and the fighting Pokémon
will both gain experience points.
Extra
Damage
While
fighting, select your desired attack. When it says you are going to use
that attack (eg. "Venusaur used Razor Leaf"), hold down the A button until
your opponent's life stops draining. If your timing was right you'll do
more damage than usual.
Fight
Land Creatures in Water
To fight
creatures that normally live on land in water, go to the water around Cinnabar
Island or Seafoam Islands (The only place you can be randomly attacked
while swimming.) Swim along the shore of any island and you will fight
land creatures. (You have to swim on a place where the square is half land
and half water.)
Instead
of fighting a set group of monsters in the water, you actually fight monsters
from the last place you were. So to get safari zone monsters, you need
to go to the section of the safari zone with that monster, let your time
run out, then go to the coast. Using this trick I have caught Kangaskhan,
Scyther, and Tauros!
Get Amnesia
Psyduck
Have
you ever wondered how you can get the elusive Amnesia technique? Well,
it's hidden deep in Pokemon Stadium for the Nintendo 64. Unlocking it will
take a while, but it's definitely worth it. You have to register ALL 151
Pokemon in the Hall of Fame. Whenever you beat a tournament (or Gym Leader
Castle), your six Pokemon are entered into the Hall of Fame. It doesn't
matter whether you use rental Pokemon or your own, but you can't have any
gaps. Once you've filled it all up, you are awarded a free Psyduck bonus
Pokemon that knows the Amnesia technique. You can now upload it to your
Game Boy pak and use it in your quest.
Get MissingNo.(High
Risk Involved!)
Warning!
Catch Missingno may delete your old game and prevent you from saving
any other games.
To get
MissingNo (a glitch) go to Cinnabar Island and go into the Pokémon
Research Labratory and trade with anyone in the first room. Then leave
the Lab and go to the EAST of Cinnabar Island and surf up and down on the
part where the land meets the water. Eventually the battle screen will
come up and the screen goes black for about 5 seconds.
Once
you find him I suggest you use a Level 30 to 40 Pokemon. This is because
Missing No., even at Lv. 80, has a VERY low defense rating. So get him
down pretty low. Even at low he is still extremely difficult to catch.
So next get a Pokemon that knows a sleep move and put him to sleep. Follow
this up with a couple Ultra Balls and you should have him.
NOTE:
Catching MissingNo. bugs out your Hall of Fame. Also note that if he evolves
(i.e., by receiving a Rare Candy) he will turn into a Kangaskahn.
Get the
Mimic TM
Buy a
Pokedoll in Celadon Mart, then FLY to Saffron and talk to the Copycat.
She will give you the Mimic TM.
Invisible
Walls in Koga's Gym
Are you
frustrated because of the unseen walls in Koga's Gym? If you look at the
floors in Koga's Gym you will notice it has lines. In some spots you will
see little gaps in the lines. These "gapped lines" are the invisible walls.
Level
100+ Pokemon (High Risk Involved!)
Follow
these instructions to catch pokemon with really high levels.
Talk to
the old man in Viridian City who shows you how to catch pokemon.
Fly directly
to Cinnabar Island.
Put your
strongest pokemon on your team.
You might
want to save now.
Surf
on the shore where the land touches water.
Keep
Surfing until you run into one of these strong pokemon.
These
pokemon are well above level 100. Unfortunately, they will revert back
to Level 100 if they gain any experience points. Rare Candy is the only
thing that raises their level. They can be used in a two-player battle
without losing their level, so have fun liquidating your friends!
Only Way
to Get Mew
We've
seen so many fake Mew codes pop up on the web (and we get about 20 new
fake Mew code submissions A DAY) that we've decided to add this following
disclaimer to our codes section:
According to Nintendo, Mew cannot be found or caught in Pokemon Yellow, Red, or Blue. Outside of a GameShark code (which may mess up your Pokedex and render the game incompatible with Pokemon Stadium), the #151st Pokemon remains a cool litte extra that is only handed out by Nintendo on special occasions, such as Mall Tours or Pokemon events.
However, all those who want to catch a glimpse of the rare Pokemon can select Mew as a rental Pokemon in Pokemon Stadium for Nintendo 64 (but you cannot upload it to your Game Boy game). Note that Mew is just that -- a bonus Pokemon (albeit a very cool one that can learn all TMs) -- and not technically required to complete your Pokedex.
Secret
Coins
At the
Game Corner there are secret coins lying around. You can get these coins
by walking around and pressing the A button.
Faster
ball upgrade
When
the Pokeball hits the first three lights at the top, press Left to move
the light. It can also be moved by pressing A.
Moving
Pokemon in Pokedex
Select
an unevolved or basic Pokemon, then press Start to watch it move in the
Pokedex. Note: This trick only works when the game is played in a Game
Boy Color system.
Pokedex
record
Enter
the Pokedex and press Select to view how many Pokemon have been obtained
and seen.
Bonus
levels
Bonus
levels are unlocked by capturing three Pokemon in the same location without
getting a "Game Over" screen or changing to a different location before
returning. If this is accomplished a hole marked "Go To Bonus" will appear.
Enter the hole to reach the bonus level. The Red pinball machine has a
Diglett's Cave bonus level, and the and blue pinball machine has a Meowth's
House bonus level.
Mew
Mew is
a bonus character that is worth a lot of points. In red, go to the Digglett,
Gengar, and Mewtwo stages twice. In blue, go to Meowth, Seel, Mewtwo stages
twice. Go to Indigo Plateau in map mode. Then go into a get mode to have
a 6% chance of Mew appearing. Hit Mew with the Pokeball for the bonus points.
Note: This trick requires a Game Shark cartridge. Enter 919679D5 as a GameShark
code and leave the GameShark cartridge off. Start a game and get into a
catch 'em mode. Proceed to catch the Pokemon, and when the four "Catch!"
lights are lit, get ready to turn on the GameShark. Hit the Pokemon again,
and as soon as the ball hits, turn on the Gameshark. A message stating
that Mew was caught will appear at the bottom of the screen. Save the game
and check the Pokedex. Mew should be there. Return to the game and try
to evolve Mew. It does not matter if you are successful, but your Pokedex
will return to normal. If you do not, when you press Select to see how
many Pokemon have been caught, 151/150 will appear (if you have all other
Pokemon).
View program
code
Note:
This trick requires a Game Shark cartridge. Start the game with the Game
Shark and enter the Pokedex screen. Then, press the reset button on the
top of the Game Shark to briefly see programmer information about the Pokemon.
Hints
Secret
Mewtwo bonus stage
Complete
both bonus stages in the machine that you are playing. In red field, clear
the Digglett and Gengar stages. In blue field, clear Meowth and Seel stages.
Then when you catch three more Pokemon or get a chance for another slot,
you can reach the Secret Mewtwo bonus stage. Once in the stage, hit Mewtwo
as much as possible. If he is hit enough times, he will stop creating the
balls. When this happens, you can hit him three more times to clear the
stage. However, do not do this, since it will start the cycle over again.
By leaving the Mewtwo stage uncleared, you may keep returning to it and
get higher scores.
Easier
way to evolve Pokemon
After
entering evolution mode, quickly hit the buttons with the flashing arrows
next to them. Do not try to raise Pikachu's lightning meter. The "Ball
Saver" will stay lit for awhile. During this time, after hitting a button
with a flashing arrow, allow the ball to move below the flippers. After
the ball is launched, if the item you are looking for is near the top,
you will have a good chance of getting it. Note: If this is attempted,
always make sure that the "Ball Saver" is not going to run out.
Special
Evolution bonus
Enter
evolution mode. Then get the menu and select a Pokemon that has a star.
Go through the entire evolution process. After the Pokemon evolves, a special
evolution bonus worth 10,000,000 will be awarded.
Double
Cave bonus
Light
up the letters C, A, V, and E to unlock the Cave bonus, but do not enter.
Light up the same letters again, then enter the Cave to collect double
the amount of points.
Easy 10
million point bonus
Upgrade
your Pokeball all the way to a Masterball by turning on all the lights
on the top half of a board. Then, try to upgrade it one more time. This
is much easier than having to evolve a Pokemon with a star next to its
name.
Easy Pokemon
capture
Hit a
Voltorb or Shellder, then hold A or B when their shadows appear.
Finding
rare Pokemon
On the
third ball, light up all the "GET" lights and enter the hole. This will
increase the chance that rare Pokemon will appear.
Talking
Pikachu
Upload
Pikachu from the yellow version of the game to Pokémon Stadium.
When battling, Pikachu will say its name and have different motions for
certain moves. Note: You must go to battle for this to work. Do not register
Pikachu.
Mew
Mew will
become playable, as a "Rental" Pokémon, in the Round 2 version of
the game. He can only be played in the Prime Cup tournament, Gym Leader
Castle, Free Battle, and Mewtwo Battle modes.
Mewtwo
Battle
Successfully
complete all Cups in Stadium mode, and defeat all opponents in the Gym
Leader Castle. Mewtwo is the last opponent you will face in both Round
1 and Round 2 versions of the game.
Kids Club
Hyper mode
In one
player mode with three CPU controlled opponents, successfully complete
"Who's the best?" five consecutive times on the hard difficulty setting
within one match. Hyper will be unlocked as a new difficulty setting for
CPU controlled players.
Alternate
Pokémon colors
Pokémon
that you upload from the Game Boy version can have alternate colors. Giving
your Pokémon various nicknames will change their colors. Switch
syllables, such as calling a "Mewtwo" to "Twomew" (blue color). Separate
the syllables with a hyphen, such as "Mewtwo" to "Mew-two". Also try naming
the Pokémon in all lower-case characters. To find out more methods,
note the color of the opposing Pokémon and look at their nicknames.
Alternate
title screen
Successfully
complete Gym Leader Castle and Stadium modes. Then, Pikachu, Blastoise,
Charizard, Venusaur and Mewtwo will appear on the title screen.
Play Pokémon
faster
Successfully
complete the entire Poké Cup to get a sticker on the GB Tower. This
will allow you to play Pokémon on the Nintendo 64 twice as fast.
If you beat the Masterball in the Prime Cup, a "Superfast" setting will
be unlocked in the GB Tower. The title will change to "Doduo or Dodrio
GB Tower", depending on if you beat both of just one of the cups .
Get Pokémon
for Game Boy game
Complete
one of the Gym Leader Castles of the Elite Four or your rival to get one
of the following random Pokémon that can be transferred back to
your Game Boy Pokémon game:
Eevee
Hitmonlee
Hitmonchan
Squirtle
Charmander
Bulbasaur
Omanyte
Kabuto
Get Pokémon
presents faster
Successfully
complete the Gym Leader Castle. Then when you want to complete it again,
go to the Gym Leader Castle, go directly to the Elite 4, and defeat your
rival.
Bonus
stickers
Successfully
complete R-1 mode, defeat Mewtwo, complete R-2 mode, and defeat Mewtwo
again. Enter the gallery screen, then hold L + R and highlight the "Print"
option. Keep holding the buttons until "Print" changes to "Bonus" to access
sixteen more stickers.
Start
with all three beginning Pokémon
When
you start a new game, you can start with all three beginning Pokémon
by starting over and choosing one of them in the Game Boy Pokémon
game. Then, capture a Pidgey or Rattata. Save it to the boxes on Pokémon
Stadium. Repeat the steps with a different Pokémon until you get
all three. You can also save and keep Pokémon from your old game
that you still want before starting over.
Surfing Pikachu
In Pokémon Stadium, Beat
Gym Leader Castle, the 4 Cups, and Mewtwo. In R-2 Mode, beat the Prime
Cup, with Pokémon Yellow's Pikachu. He must participate in EVERY
battle (must be one of the three in the team) but he doesn't always have
to fight. Once you defeat the Prime Cup, a screen will pop up asking if
you want to teach your Pikachu Surf. Let it teach it to Pikachu. Then
go to Surfing Dude's House in Pokémon Yellow and he'll let you use
the Surfing Pikachu Game!! It's a sidescroller where you collect little
icons while hanging six ( there's 3 toes on Pikachu's Feet ) !
Avoid
recoil damage
If you
use an attack that you know will kill the opposing Pokémon, but
will hit you with the recoil, make sure that your Pokémon has at
least 20 HP left. Use the
attack and you will not be fainted by the recoil damage.
Take less
damage
Use the
following trick when your Pokémon is receiving a fatal attack, such
as when Thunder is used on a Water Pokémon, to leave you with enough
HP to attack your opponent once. When your opponent's Pokémon begins
to use their attack, hold Down + L + B until the energy takes its affect.
When the energy leaves, you will have a chance to strike your opponent's
Pokémon. Note: This trick only works between 70% to 80% of the time.
This will not work if Pokémon are totally mismatched, such as when
a level 50 Pokémon is fighting a level 100 Pokémon.
Inflict
greater damage
While
your Pokémon is doing their attack, hold Down + L and repeatedly
press A. Then when your Pokémon attacks, hold Down + L + A until
the damage is taken. This is very effective when you attempt a fatal attack.
Note: This trick only works between 80% to 90% of the time.
Attack
first
Immediately
after you choose a move and you want to go first instead of the CPU, hold
L and press A. Note: This trick only works about 50% of the time, mostly
in the Pika Cup.
Trade
without a second transfer pak
Put a
box on the game, then put the Pokémon from a different game or the
same one in the box. Then, go back to the lab and put the box back on the
game that you are trading to, go to the box, and withdraw the Pokémon
when you want or need it.
Pokémon
Stadium Cup requirements
